Lalin Property ordered to compensate house buyers | Bangkok Post: news

The Civil Court has ordered Lalin Property Co to pay more than 18 million baht in compensation to 71 residents of its housing estate for negligence in preparing the site, which lead to houses subsiding. The judgement marks the end of a legal battle in a consumer protection case, in which prosecutors from the Office of the Attorney General acted on householders' behalf under the Consumer Protection Act (1979). The prosecutors brought the complaint to the court after they were given a greenlight by the Consumer Protection Board, which divided the case into four different lawsuits, the OAG said on Tuesday. The court ruled on the first lawsuit on May 31 this year, ordering the company to pay 1.1 million baht, with 7.5% annual interest, to five plaintiffs. Subsequent rulings between August and September resulted in the the firm having to pay additional compensation totalling about 16.9 million, plus interest, to 66 persons.
